DHL Gives Designers a Leg Up in Russian Fashion Week Competition

Tasked at showing DHL Russia how to best represent innovation in fashion, 15 up-and-coming designers competed last month for a career-changing moment in the spotlight.

The competition that helped launch Muscovite designer Elena Trotsko to fame last year returned to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia (MBFWR) last month during the showing of the Spring/Summer 2013 collections.

As major sponsor to the Fashion Week events in Moscow, DHL is always looking for ways to assist emerging designers. For the third year in a row, that included running a competition to see how fashion can be interpreted as innovative. After narrowing the field from fifteen to three new prospects, DHL Russia gave the top three a place out on the catwalk to showcase their skills.

The designs in red and yellow were certainly eye-catching after a series of collection showings in neutral palettes.


In the end, the public voted Goga Sabekia as the winner of a grant from DHL and the possibility of a time slot during the next MBFWR season. The win could certainly be a career-changer for Goga, as Elena Trotsko can attest. After last year's win, the designer's gone on to work with DHL in a partnership that has her showing her collection at the DHL-sponsored booth while also designing bracelets for guests at the shows.

Trotsko's success and the design competition in Russia is just one of the ways that DHL's helping young designers get their leg up in the fashion world.
