Summer Tour 2012 Ends With a Bang

A dramatic finale to the six-stop tour that saw the 19-time Premier League champions Manchester United across three continents in four weeks.

With a packed schedule, the team's time was tight in Hanover. The players had little breathing room to recover from the match they lost in penalties to Barcelona just a few days before, but that didn't stop them from putting on an exciting show when they finally arrived at the arena in the DHL Summer Tour bus.

After first half goals from Hernandez for United and Sobiech for Hanover 96, the players went into half with an even score line. The pace picked up afterward, drawing to a frenzy as Hanover was on the brink of victory after scoring two consecutive goals.

A ticking clock, however, seemed to call to superstar Rooney, who cracked in an outstanding free kick, converted a penalty kick, and finally set up Shinji Kagawa to fire the winning goal with just five minutes remaining.

A one-in-a-lifetime experience

The 4-3 score for Manchester United brought cheers from the team's fans, who'd come from across Germany to get a glimpse of the premier leaguers in action.

“Genius,” said one attendee.

Not only were attendees able to watch the Chevrolet Cup as part of an appreciation package, the group was also introduced to Manchester United Legend Bryan Robson, who'd popped by to surprise the DHL group attending.

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said another attendee. “Of course I would have played the team differently in the second half. But then again, I'm a Hanover fan.”

Manchester United fan or not, even he had to admit the winning team put on quite the friendly.
