DHL named Official Logistics Partner of Rugby World Cup 2015

After scoring try after try on the logistics pitch at Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand, DHL will take the field again in 2015 as Official Logistics Partner on Rugby’s biggest stage. The road to RWC 2015 begins with the delivery of the Webb Ellis Cup across the globe at the end of October.

DHL was named the Official Logistics Partner of Rugby World Cup 2015 in an official announcement on October 24, 2013, by the International Rugby Board (IRB) and DHLExternal Link / New Window.

The international competition is being hosted by England over six weeks in September and October 2015. England is one of four nations to have won the coveted Webb Ellis Cup over the Tournament’s 25-year history.

“We are very excited to be joining forces once again with the IRB to deliver Rugby World Cup 2015,” said Ken Allen, CEO, DHL Express. “DHL sees tremendous synergies between a sport that is built on teamwork, passion and a will to win and the values that we strive to bring to life every day for our customers. We are actively involved in Rugby the world over, both through flagship global partnerships such as this one and through our participation in local clubs and grassroots initiatives. We will be working hard behind the scenes to support and match the world class performance that fans will surely be treated to on the pitch.”

The logistics scrum
As Official Logistics Partner, DHL will be responsible for the transportation of Tournament and team equipment from around the world to the 13 match venues in England.

During the next two years and at Tournament time, the company will move team equipment between venues, distribute match tickets and handle the delicate anti-doping samples after each match, among many other requirements. In 2011, DHL transported some 800 metric tons of team equipment across New Zealand, traveling a total of nearly 100,000 kilometers.

A unique Rugby heritage
The partnership between DHL and Rugby World Cup 2015 continues a longstanding relationship between DHL and the game of Rugby. Beyond Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand, DHL was a naming rights sponsor of the recent 2013 British & Irish Lions Tour of Australia (as well as the 2005 DHL Lions Series in New Zealand). The company also currently partners with Harlequins in England, the DHL Stormers in South Africa, the Irish Rugby Football Union and a number of tournaments within the IRB World Sevens Series. Other initiatives by DHL to support rugby development around the world have included partnerships with rugby federations, tournaments, clubs and school programs as far afield as Fiji, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Romania, and Canada.
