Three continents, four countries, one message

With just under two years to go until Rugby World Cup 2015 kicks off, and as the first of many movements, DHL is hand-carrying the Webb Ellis Cup back to the IRB in Ireland, by way of a global journey that will visit each of the former trophy holders.

From October 26 to October 30, 2013, the Cup will travel between the four former Rugby World Cup champions: New Zealand (current champion), Australia, South Africa and England. After New Zealand and the All Blacks hand over “Billy” – a nickname coined by the Australian national rugby team in 1991 – to DHL, the Trophy will make stops – among others – at Sydney Football Stadium, historic Ellis Park in Johannesburg, the brand-new South African Rugby Museum in Cape Town, not to mention one of DHL’s largest hubs in East Midlands, England.

This whirlwind, whistle-stop tour will see the Trophy handed over by DHL and Cup Chaperone – legendary former New Zealand player Grant Fox – to former Rugby World Cup winning players from each country for local celebrations with employees, customers and fans. After a layover in next host nation, England, it will then be delivered by DHL to Dublin, Ireland, on November 17 for the inaugural IRB World Rugby Conference.
