Building on the resounding success of Volunteer Day activities in recent years, Deutsche Post DHL has been given the initiative a global dimension. The new Global Volunteer Day 2011 gave employees around the world plenty of opportunity to get involved in community projects.

Global Player

“With our network of almost half a million colleagues, we reach nearly every corner of our planet. As one of the world’s leading logistics companies, we profit from growth from Asia to the Americas, from Europe to Africa." says Frank Appel, CEO Deutsche Post DHL. "But with this favourable position comes a duty as well: we must contribute to the communities in which we do business. Based on this tremendous success, the Management Board of Deutsche Post DHL has decided to roll out Volunteer Day globally.”

Launched in 2008

Volunteer Day was introduced in the Asia Pacific region in 2008, when about 15,000 employees from 24 countries participated in over 80 community projects that supported various local causes. The program has gained strong momentum since then and in 2010 over 30,000 employees, business partners and customers in more than 100 countries participated. Some of the activities include renovating schools, cleaning of parks, beaches and surrounding environment, blood donations, planting trees or spending time with underprivileged children and patients in hospitals.
