Building on the resounding success of Volunteer Day activities in recent years, Deutsche Post DHL has been given the initiative a global dimension. The new Global Volunteer Day 2012 gives employees around the world plenty of opportunity to get involved in community projects.
In 2011 volunteers planted trees to help revitalize the Dairy Farm Nature Park in Singapore.
We are putting the initiative again under the motto "Handle With Care". The Global Volunteer Day 2012 is running September 6-16. 120 countries, 600 projects and over 60,000 volunteers - the sheer size of Global Volunteer Day last year shows just how deeply entrenched volunteerism is throughout Deutsche Post DHL's global workforce. And we'd like to match last year's success.
Last year volunteers in Chile built a transitional house that will serve as a classroom at a local school damaged by the recent earthquake.
Our volunteers will once again lend their helping hands to local community projects such as painting, construction and yard work at kindergartens, field trips and summer festivities with seniors and people with a physical or mental impairment. They are also helping out in schools and charitable organizations, and participating in bird protection projects at our corporate headquarters in Bonn, Germany to name but a few.
