Urawa Red Diamonds

Leading Interest in Japanese Football
The name Red Diamonds signifies the glitter of diamonds, strength and strong solidarity. The team likes to say it sends out lights like red fire when the 11 are under the light of supporters in the stands. Known to fans as simply the Urawa Reds, the club’s philosophy is to bring people together around the sport of soccer in the excitement and joy that it brings to all – and extending circles of goodwill and friendship out to the whole world.

DHL shares this philosophy of inclusion from one of Japan’s leading football clubs and is delighted to support the Urawa Reds as their Official Logistics Partner.

The Urawa Red Diamonds are a professional association football club playing in Japan’s J. League Division 1. Past winners of the J. League Cup, Emperor’s Cup and the AFC Champions League, the team is one of the most successful in Japan’s relatively young professional soccer league. The team boasts the highest average attendance in 14 of the J-League’s 20 seasons. Now considered one of the top clubs in the world, the Urawa Reds are repeatedly asked to play friendly matches against teams around the world in the off-season, most notably facing Manchester United and Bayern Munich in recent years.

With excitement brewing for the country’s national men’s and women’s teams, both of which made it to medals matches at the 2012 London Olympic Games, football fever in Japan is on the rise. The broadcast of the women’s final recorded a TV viewing rating of 19.4% in Japan despite being televised at four in the morning!

Many young Japanese players have flourished in European clubs in recent years, raising the bar and drawing more attention to the sport. Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa is a notable Japanese player who has become a star at Old Trafford Stadium and receives a lot of media attention back home.

We’re proud to support the Urawa Reds and Japanese soccer in our role as Official Logistics Partner.
