DHL shows Eco-Friendly Solutions at World Expo
Innovations for sustainability and “green” ideas on show
At the World Expo in Shanghai, running from May 1 to October 31, 2010, DHL is presenting innovations in the areas of sustainability and “green” solutions.
The first logistics company to have set a specific and quantified carbon efficiency objective, DHL is one of several globally active companies contributing ideas to the Urban Planet pavilion, which presents the Expo’s overall theme: “Better City, Better Life.”
”As the world’s biggest logistics provider, we recognize a special responsibility to use our core competencies to minimize the impact on the environment and give back to the larger society,” said Frank Appel, Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Post DHL. “We are committed to continuing to invest in green technologies and want to demonstrate at the Expo what we consider innovative, sustainable logistics.”

In the first section of the pavilion, the ascending Road of Crisis depicts the destruction of the planet, while the descending Road of Solutions showcases concepts for a better, greener future. In this latter section, DHL presents ten examples of carbon-neutral and carbon-efficient concepts, products and services alongside companies Bosch and Daimler.
The solutions displayed by DHL have been developed to meet global and urban challenges. For example, the DHL Smart Truck can calculate the most efficient delivery route at any given moment, while the Bring Buddy project involves alternative transportation concepts for avoiding inner city traffic. DHL is also demonstrating eco-friendly buildings.
Deutsche Post DHL aims to improve its carbon efficiency by 30 percent by 2020 (compared to the 2007 baseline). The exhibition includes examples from the Group’s carbon management, GOGREEN products, “green” transport technologies and concepts for effective city logistics. The topics have been developed in conjunction with DHL Solutions & Innovations (DSI) and the Corporate and divisional GoGreen teams.
The World Expo 2010 is expected to be the largest world exhibition ever, with 240 countries and organizations exhibiting in an area covering 5.4 square kilometers and an expected 70 million visitors.
