DHL-Sinotrans aids flood-stricken area in Hunan

Supporting World Vision by providing timely and reliable delivery of the relief supplies to Chenzhou within 24 hours

Beijing, 20 July 2006 – As the leading express company in China, DHL-Sinotrans, by leveraging its extensive network and its core competencies of reliability and speed, immediately implemented the disaster response program and aided World Vision, an international relief and development organization by providing the free delivery of a large amount of relief packages to Chenzhou of Hunan province within 24 hours, which greatly helped the people affected by the disaster.

In the flood season of 2006, Hunan province was stricken by more than seven rounds of rainstorms, and has suffered serious floods. It was reported that by mid-July, 12 cities, 57 counties and 1,238 villages in Hunan were flushed with a population of 8.31 million suffering and civilian death toll reaching 40. So far the province has experienced an estimated loss of RMB 3.55 billion. Among the areas affected, Chenzhou is the most seriously flood-stricken area in Hunan.

Being the leading express and logistics company in China, DHL-Siontrans has long been active in implementing and facilitating corporate social responsibility activities. In April 2006, DHL set up the Disaster Response Team in Asia Pacific. By leveraging DHL’s global seamless network coverage, DHL aims to provide timely and effective support to emergencies and disasters in the region. In China, DHL-Sinotrans enjoys a long-term cooperation with World Vision to deliver relief supplies in many cases such as the flood in Guangxi province last June and the earthquake in Jiangxi last November. In early 2006, DHL-Sinotrans donated RMB 200,000 to rebuild a primary school in Jiujiang, an earthquake stricken area in Jiangxi province.

In addition, to help promote the healthy development of students in China’s rural areas, DHL-Sinotrans takes an active part in World Vision’s “Soccer in a Box” program. So far, DHL-Sinotrans has delivered more than 400 boxes of sport equipment to remote areas in Yunnan, Guizhou and Jiangxi, among others. The year 2006 marks the third consecutive year that the company is participating in this program. DHL-Sinotrans will continue to provide support in delivering the joy and excitement of sports to more children in China’s remote rural areas.

Wu Dongming, Managing Director of DHL-Sinotrans, said, “Since the company began operations in China in the early eighties, DHL-Sinotrans has committed itself to giving back to the community. As the leading international air express company in China, DHL-Sinotrans will, in addition to supporting students in remote areas, put more emphasis on providing the timely and effective support to emergencies and disasters.”
