What is special about working for DHL?

I think DHL is special because it is a really global company and there are about 200 countries that we work in right now. And we all work with a common vision. That’s unique.

Why did you want to work for DHL?

There are many reasons why I chose this company. I think the first one is its truly global form that is giving me the flexibility of working across different parts of the world which not many companies can. The second part is that it’s an industry which I could really understand. You can get your arms around it and I wanted to work for something I could easily relate to. I can see things that are moving and people that are happy when we are able to make a good delivery which is also very important to me. On top of that it’s a growing industry which has its own unique opportunities. It‘s all moving to a global world and I think this company is very well positioned for that.

How important is the ability to work in a team when working for DHL?

Teamwork is important because in all the consulting projects we are working in teams. There is usually one project manager and anywhere from two to five consultants supporting him depending on how huge the project is. No single person can deliver the result that the team can and every individual needs to understand that. And we actually encourage challenging each other in a constructive way so that the team output is better. The team output supersedes the individual output and you’re encouraged not to be too attached to what you are delivering but to be attached to what the team is delivering. Everyone in In-house consulting is very structured and analytically orientated so we try and let the facts speak to find a decision. We bring our own expertise and previous experiences. Everyone’s point of view is taken and after that the decisions are made.

What does your work make important for your clients?

Our clients, who are our internal business units of Deutsche Post, are willing to pay for us because this is a very complex business. Our customers are always pushing DHL out to be more post efficient and at the same time provide higher quality. It is also a very growing business so that throws up a lot of opportunities for us to continuously improve. We alternatively provide our business units to hire external consultants so that we can retain the knowledge In-house. And we are also quicker in skilling up because we’re familiar with all the internal stakeholders and the internal businesses et cetera.

Have your expectations of the job been fulfilled?

My expectations have been more than fulfilled. I think I’m growing more and more proud and fond of this place every day.
