Deutsche Post World Net honors best suppliers

  • Nine suppliers receive awards in three categories
  • Staffmark, Motorola and VanDerLande all win top award
  • Intensified supplier management aims to build long-term relationships

To mark its first Global Supplier Day Corporate Procurement at Deutsche Post World Net has honored its very best suppliers. The nine awards form part of an intensified supplier management program and represent an important milestone towards developing strategic partnerships at Deutsche Post World Net. Since 2005 the Group has focused more strongly on supplier evaluation and development. As well as optimizing costs, the program is aimed in particular at meeting ever rising demands in terms of quality and flexibility in the supply chain. "The right products need to be delivered in the specified quantities, at the right time and to the right place," says Hugo Eckseler, head of Corporate Procurement of Deutsche Post World Net. "So it is important that our suppliers know precisely what we expect from them and that we know what they can deliver. We need to work together on optimizing performance levels, for only then do we achieve genuine win-win situations." Moreover, the supplier management system allows the Group to ensure over the longer term that ethical standards are met and that companies are meeting their social responsibilities.

The US temporary labor company Staffmark was the winner in the category of most improved suppliers. The company stood out thanks to its sharp customer focus and for the last four years has achieved a continual improvement in its level of service. Staffmark was assessed on the basis of CoSMo, the Corporate Supplier Management Model used by Corporate Procurement since 2005 to evaluate and develop relationships with suppliers. CoSMo assessments are carried out by internal business partners and experts at Corporate Procurement. The other awards for most improved performance went to T-Systems for IT services and tire manufacturer Continental AG.

The award for the most innovative supplier went to Motorola. The company mainly supplies Deutsche Post with portable scanners plus related software and networking solutions. One example of collaboration with Motorola was the development of a tailored solution allowing data to be transmitted direct from scanners to a printer without the need for a PC or laptop. This innovative solution brought savings for the MAIL Corporate Division of some
6 million euros a year. Motorola is also a partner in the DHL Innovation Center, where the Group has bundled its global research activities. In this role Motorola has helped develop solutions based on RFID technology and traffic telematics. The other suppliers recognized for their innovative approach in this category were GE Capital Solutions in the area of commercial vehicles and Morgan Stanley in the field of aviation.

The award for suppliers offering the very best service went to VanDerLande Industries, a Dutch supplier of material handling systems. VanDerLande impressed internal business partner DHL Express Aviation when installing handling facilities at the new Leipzig hub in May of this year. The work was even finished a number of weeks ahead of schedule and the system was commissioned without any major hitches. The other awards for best suppliers went to Cisco Systems GmbH for telecoms services and the Wiesbaden-based advertising agency Carat.
