The GroupInvestor Relations
The DHL story began back in 1969 when three people - Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn - started shipping documents by air. Since then, DHL has grown both organically and through acquisitions. Included among the latter are the major logistics businesses of Danzas and Exel.
Founded in Switzerland in 1815, Danzas was acquired by Deutsche Post World Net in 2000. At the time the company was the global leader in air freight and the worldwide number two in ocean freight forwarding, as well as a major player in overland transport and contract logistics. Exel, headquartered in the UK, was acquired in 2005 - and was then the world’s largest logistics service provider, as well as a major transport and international freight forwarding specialist. Both companies - along with many others - have now been successfully integrated into DHL’s global logistics operations.
Today, DHL is the worldwide market leader of both the international express and logistics sectors, specialising in providing innovative and customised solutions from a single source.
DHL offers expertise in express, air and ocean freight, overland transport and contract logistics, as well as international mail services. We combine worldwide coverage with an in-depth understanding of local markets - and our international network links more than 220 countries and territories. Some 285,000 employees are dedicated to providing fast and reliable services that exceed customers' expectations. Read more about the origins of DHL.
