Consumers attitudes towards global distance selling

A survey by DHL eCommerce with 11,000 consumers in 20 countries

In 2013 the worldwide distance selling market reached a revenue of 616 billion Euro and is expected to grow by 10.7% per year until 2018. Interesting international differences regarding the attitude towards distance selling, the buying behaviour and for the needs of the costumers can be found in the study:
  • Mexico orders yearly 6 times a head, Great Britain up to 29 times!
  • In Turkey only 3.8 days are accepted for the ordering period, in Russia up to 12.4 days!
  • Austria purchases 80% of all orders from abroad, Turkey currently only 18%!
  • Clothes rule the distance selling revenue in China and Germany, Brazil mainly requests consumer electronics and in Turkey groceries are ordered the most!
