STRIKE IN THE FINNISH POSTAL SERVICES

November 20, 2019

The Finnish Transport Workers’ Union AKT and Finnish Seafarers’ Union FSU, among others, have announced sympathy actions in support of the ongoing industrial actions of the Finnish Post and Logistics Union PAU.

The sympathy actions of AKT are expanding gradually to include different member groups of the union. At the moment, postal shipments and transports are not handled and AKT members working in trucking as well as stevedoring, dock and warehouse terminal workers, among others, have overtime and shift-trading bans.

According to FSU, cargo transports and handling taking place on the car decks of ropax vessels and passenger car ferries in foreign traffic will be halted by not admitting any trucks, trailers, or similar vehicles onto the car decks, as of Thursday 21 November starting 6 a.m. Further as of Monday 25 November 6 a.m. all cargo, ropax, and passenger vessels in foreign traffic and sailing under the Finnish flag or arriving at a port in Finland after 6 a.m. will remain in port.

DHL will do its utmost to minimize the delays to our customers’ shipments. However, if the sympathy actions proceed in the announced scale it is obvious that delays cannot be avoided.

The AKT support actions can have impacts to international road freight shipments (import/export) and also domestic road freight shipments.

If the actions announced by FSU start, the transport capacity to / from Finland will be severely reduced. We strive to arrange a limited amount of transport by road using special arrangements and routes available at the time, at an additional cost. Normal transport schedules cannot be applied.

As the situation may change very quickly, please check the latest status from Customer Service when making a new transport booking.

DHL Freight will also continue to monitor the situation closely and we publish updates, if necessary, through news articles on our web pages, among others.
