Brexit is a reality and Britain is no longer a member of the EU. It remains exciting to see how things will continue after the transition period and what challenges the economy will have to face. As your customs specialist, we support you in your international customs processes and ensure a continuous flow of goods and information in these extraordinary times.

Keep an eye on the developments and milestones in terms of Brexit. Ensure that you prepare your supply chain processes, your teams, and your business partners early on and that you allow sufficient time for the implementation and introduction of changes. Let DHL Freight Customs Services help you do this. We are well prepared and look forward to helping you!

What will change for you?

We are currently in the transition phase after Brexit. This means that until 1 January 2021, initially, nothing will change for EU trade with the UK and vice versa. After that date, however, customs declarations will be required for imports and exports. You will also need to take note of the following:

  • Customs duties and taxes on imports into the UK and the EU
  • Customs declarations are required for trade between the UK and the EU
  • Transit times may change
  • Rates and additional surcharges could change due to customs clearance
  • Possible additional controls for certain goods such as animal and plant products

How can you prepare for yourself?

Time is pressing. The transition period after the Brexit will end on 1 January 2021, after which the UK will become a third country and as such will be subject to appropriate import and export regulations and the associated customs procedures and declarations. This scenario requires urgent preparation. Our Brexit experts at DHL Customs Services have produced a guide explaining all the necessary steps for companies.
