DHL EXPRESS KOREA ENGAGES IN CONTACTLESS VOLUNTEER SERVICES ON GLOBAL VOLUNTEER DAY
Press Release: Seoul, July 12, 2021

- A total of 1,400 DHL Express Korea employees participated in this year’s Global Volunteer Day
- Volunteering conducted in contact-free way to minimize spread of COVID-19
DHL Express, the world's leading international express service provider, has announced that 1,400 of its employees in South Korea participated in this year’s Global Volunteer Day, which took place in contact-free way considering the on-going COVID-19 pandemic situation. Global Volunteer Day is a group-wide annual CSR initiative that encourages its employees around the world to volunteer and make a positive contribution in the communities in which they belong to.
In line with Deutsche Post DHL Group’s ambitious target to reduce all logistics-related carbon emission to zero by 2050 and its tree planting exercise, which has been running since 2017, DHL Express Korea has planted over 4,000 trees so far and initiated a pet plant raising activity this year. Each employee in country head office was given a pet plant to grow in their offices and homes and asked to take a photo of it after a month period. Each pet plant photo submitted is matched with one Acacia tree to be planted in partnership with Tree Planet, a social venture firm, to build a ‘DHL Express Korea Forest’ at Gangwon Province.

Moreover, other employees working at DHL service centers nationwide and Incheon Gateway have carried out t-shirt making initiative, where they would paint t-shirts using a ready-made kit and given to underprivileged children in countries like Senegal, Uganda, Chad, etc.
ByungKoo Han, Country Manager of DHL Express, said, “Ever year, DHL encourages its employees to volunteer and contribute to the communities that they serve or belong to. While COVID-19 has made physical tree planting practices difficult currently, it has not stopped us from continuing our efforts to volunteer and make sustainable contribution towards our society. In fact, we have creatively come up with virtual alternatives so that we can continue keeping our distance and ensuring the safety for all of us.”
Global Volunteer Day was introduced in Asia Pacific in 2008 and has since been expanded to the Americas, Middle East, Africa, and Europe – becoming a major component and a driver of employee volunteering across Deutsche Post DHL Group. Annually, over 100,000 employees devote their time to numerous volunteering projects.
