DHL Express Reinstates Service in Canada

Last Updated : June 30, 2025

DHL Express is pleased to announce that it has restored all services in Canada, reinstating all operations effective June 30.

The resumption of operations follows a successful agreement reached between DHL Express Canada and the Unifor trade union, which represents a significant proportion of our workforce in Canada, after nearly a year of negotiations. This 4-year agreement will remain in effect until July 1, 2029.

DHL Express Canada has reached a tentative agreement with Unifor after almost a year of negotiations.

This significant step brings us closer to resuming operations in Canada, following the difficult decision to suspend operations, effective June 20, due to the labor disruption and the implementation of Bill C-58 which prohibits the use of replacement workers during strikes.

Throughout this period, DHL Express Canada has remained committed to negotiating with Unifor in good faith to renew our collective agreement, ensuring fair compensation for our employees while considering the current economic landscape.

Unifor will share the full details of the proposed agreement with our team members shortly so that they may complete the process of a ratification vote. Voting will take place on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28.
Upon successful ratification, DHL Express Canada expects to lift service suspension with immediate effect.

DHL Express shipping operations in Canada will be suspended effective Friday, June 20, 2025, at 0:00am EST. As a result, DHL Express will pause the collection of shipments destined to or dispatched from Canada as of Tuesday, June 17, at 9:00pm EST until further notice.

The services of DHL’s other business units in Canada – DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Supply Chain – as well as the inbound delivery of shipments for DHL eCommerce and Post & Parcel Germany are not impacted by this change.

The service suspension results from ongoing labor disruptions related to negotiations with the Unifor labor union, which represents a significant number of operational staff and owner operator drivers serving DHL Express customers in Canada. Due to the recent implementation of new labor legislation in Canada, DHL Express is not able to deploy replacement workers or other necessary contingency measures to mitigate the impact of labor action and maintain its high standard of service quality.

DHL Express will continue to engage constructively and in good faith with Unifor over a new collective agreement that provides fair compensation to team members while ensuring a sustainable, long-term foundation for the company’s operations in Canada. DHL’s priority is to reactivate normal service to and from Canada as soon as possible. Further updates will be shared as soon as relevant information becomes available.
