What excites you most about the logistics industry?

I’m excited by the enormous potential for innovation within this industry.

As one of the oldest industries in the world, logistics has traditionally been a lumbering giant – often resistant to change and slow to adopt new innovations. With advancements in automation technologies, and a maturing digital ecosystem, I believe we’re at a tipping point in the logistics industry.

The next couple of years will see key disruptions and I’m eager to be in the thick of action, witnessing this industry transformation first-hand.

What’s a typical week for you at DHL?

My focus is on growing the contract logistics business in Singapore and my weekly engagements vary depending on the project needs.

I frequently engage with potential customers to understand the supply chain challenges they face. Together with the Solutions Design team, we then define and create a solution that addresses these needs.

DHL is more than just a service provider – As a supply chain partner, it is important for me to articulate the overall value we bring to our customers. An example of this would be leading a tour of our Advanced Regional Centre to showcase the people, innovations, and processes at the heart of our operations.

The logistics industry is closely-intertwined with the other industry sectors. To be effective in driving our business strategies, we spend considerable time to research and stay informed of the latest trends across industries.

I would like to change the perception that business development is just about sales. Beyond just selling, we also work to improve our solution offerings. I meet up with various vendors and start-ups to explore collaborative opportunities and develop new solutions for the business.

What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?

 Knowing that I have autonomy in my job to deal with the opportunities and challenges that each day brings.

What accomplishment in your journey with DHL are you most proud of?

Being commended by a customer after a presentation on how we managed to grasp their pain points, while providing a clear roadmap to solve their challenges. That was one of my earliest presentations and it was heartening to receive affirmation on what we were doing right.
