DHL Supply Chain Thailand and Green Spot Embark on a Sustainable Journey With the Launch of New Electric Vehicle
Press Release: Bangkok, 22 January 2024
This landmark initiative for sustainable logistics is set to reduce carbon emissions and exemplifies the shared vision for an eco-friendly supply chain
DHL Supply Chain Thailand, a global leader in logistics, has partnered with Green Spot, the leading soy milk manufacturer in Thailand, to introduce an electric 18-wheeler , marking a significant step towards both companies’ commitment to a greener and more sustainable future. This fully electric vehicle is capable of traveling up to 350km on a single charge. The vehicle takes approximately two hours to charge and is projected to reduce CO₂ emissions by 60 tons annually.
This electric vehicle represents a transformative leap in transporting Green Spot products, ensuring both internal and external movements are eco-friendly. The routes include transfers raw materials from the bottle factory to the Green Spot Factory in Nong Kae and Rangsit and transport the products from both factories to the Khlong Luang Warehouse. From there, products will reach consumers through modern trade channels including Big C, Lotus’s, and 7-11.
DHL’s Connected Control Tower will oversee the management of the vehicle, using integrated advanced technologies such as the Paragon Route Optimization System, Transport Management System, Telematics, and DHL’s MySupplyChain digital platform.
Steve Walker, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Thailand Cluster, stated, “We are steadfastly progressing towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, emphasizing clean and sustainable operations at every turn. Our partnership with Green Spot reflects our shared values, notably our unwavering commitment to sustainable practices. Introducing our electric truck is a tangible testament to this continual dedication. By integrating cutting-edge technologies, we aim to maximize cost efficiency through effective route optimization, ensure safe deliveries, and offer full visibility throughout our supply chain.”
Chote Sophonpanich, Chairman of Executive Board of Green Spot, emphasized, “The principles of quality, food safety, and nourishment have always guided our journey. With the introduction of the electric vehicle for transporting our beverages, we embark on a new chapter—one that echoes our devotion to responsible practices. This partnership with DHL Supply Chain Thailand reiterates our dedication to build cleaner and greener logistics operations. We’re committed to continuously exploring and implementing eco-friendly solutions across our entire supply chain.”
Green Spot’s dedication to the sustainability agenda also includes optimizing resource utilization, minimizing waste generation, and curbing energy consumption. Through these conscientious efforts, the company aims to enhance well-being and elevate the quality of life for both consumers and the broader community. This commitment resonates through their focus on sustainable practices, fostering a healthier environment, and positively contributing to the welfare of stakeholders.
DHL Supply Chain Thailand currently operates a number of electric trucks across their fleet and has plans to continue to introduce additional electric vehicles in 2024 and beyond. The ongoing deployment of these trucks aligns with the Green Transport Policy, a strategic step towards decarbonizing transport solutions and achieving significant reductions in carbon emissions, in accordance with the Group's Sustainability Roadmap. This policy serves as a blueprint for transitioning the fleet towards more environmentally friendly alternatives such as hydrotreated vegetable oil, biogas, electric, or hydrogen engines. As part of this initiative, DHL Supply Chain aims to convert approximately 2,000 of its vehicles globally to these cleaner options.
