Train Accident Between Italy and Germany Delays Transport – Impact on DHL Freight Shipments
August 19, 2025
Rail traffic between Italy and Germany is expected to face delays due to a serious accident at the Trento Roncafort station. An empty freight train derailed and collided with a passenger train, resulting in a complete closure of the Brenner railway line.
According to preliminary information, the infrastructure has been significantly damaged, and there is currently no estimate for when the line will reopen. The closure is expected to last at least 1–2 days.
The accident is also affecting DHL Freight shipments. Most of our traffic to Italy consists of intermodal transport, where trailers travel part of the journey by train.
Impacts:
- Delays in trailers transported to Finland via Italy and Germany
- Cancellations and delays of train services expected
- Impact on the following routes:
- Lübeck–Verona
- Rostock–Verona
- Padborg–Verona
- Herne–Verona
- Cologne–Verona
- Leipzig–Verona
We are currently exploring alternative routes via Chiasso and Tarvisio to ease the situation. We will update this notice as soon as we receive more information on the development.
You can conveniently track your shipment’s progress in the myDHLi portal.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused and are doing everything we can to ensure deliveries reach their destination as quickly as possible.
