Italy: Widespread Strike Disrupts International Transport
October 02, 2025
A widespread general strike in Italy is causing significant disruptions to international rail traffic. What was initially announced as a small strike has expanded into a full-scale general strike, with major impacts on international transport.
The strike began on Thursday, October 2nd at 7:00 p.m. It is expected to end on Friday, October 3rd at 9:00 p.m., but the schedule may change at short notice.
The strike, along with neighboring countries' railway infrastructure companies refusing to handle trains, currently prevents train departures and border crossings. All train departures from Verona and Segrate have been halted, and no new departures are allowed. Terminals are still completing ongoing loading operations, but trains will not depart until the next available time slot.
Most of DHL Freight’s road transport between Finland and Italy includes a rail segment. The situation is causing delays in trailer transport to and from Italy.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused. You can conveniently track your shipment via the myDHLFreight portal.
