Balkan Region: Border Traffic Disruptions May Cause Delays to Road Freight Transport Starting 14 September 2026

September 08, 2026

Professional driver associations in Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia have announced that they will begin implementing border crossing closures towards the European Union on Monday, 14 September 2026. The measures are related to challenges associated with the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES).

The planned border closures may affect road freight transportation in the region. Disruptions may particularly impact freight border crossings, import and export shipments, and transit times for transports moving through the Balkan region.

At present, no detailed information is available regarding the duration of the potential border closures. DHL Freight is closely monitoring the situation and will keep customers informed of any developments and possible impacts on transportation services.
