Disruptions in Belgian Ports – Impact on International Transport

March 11, 2026

Strikes are currently taking place in Belgian ports, significantly affecting port operations and consequently DHL Freight’s international transport to Mainland Europe as well as the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The strikes particularly affect traffic in the ports of Antwerp, Zeebrugge and Ghent. The strikes are slowing down or preventing vessel movements, as maritime traffic control and pilotage services are only partially available. The strikes are expected to continue approximately until 13 March. At this stage, there is no confirmed information on when normal operations can resume. Delays may still occur even after the disruptions have ended.

Impact on DHL Freight Transport

UK traffic (part and full loads): Exports that departed last week are delayed and have not yet arrived in Tilbury. The 12 March import departure from Tilbury will also be delayed. Routing adjustments are being made according to the situation to minimise delays.

Mainland Europe traffic via Belgium: The strikes are causing delays in handling units shipped to Belgium. The situation is being monitored and routings adapted where possible.

Groupage shipments: Groupage shipments are not affected by delays, as they are routed via alternative paths.

DHL Freight is actively monitoring the situation and doing its utmost to minimise the impact on transport. You can track the progress of your shipment in the myDHLFreight portal.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the situation.
