Italy: Strikes and rail network disruptions causing delays to international transport
May 22, 2026
Multiple simultaneous disruptions are expected across the European transport network, which may affect international shipments during week 22 and beyond.
Italy: Road transport sector strike, 25–29 May 2026
A nationwide road transport sector strike will take place in Italy from 25 to 29 May 2026. The strike will begin on Monday, 25 May at 01:00 and end on Friday, 29 May at 24:00.
The strike will affect the entire country and may cause significant disruptions to transport operations, particularly in road transport. Delays may occur in both pickup and delivery times during and after the strike.
Italy: Railway sector strike, 28–29 May 2026
In addition, a strike has been announced in the Italian railway sector from 28 to 29 May 2026. The strike may lead to restrictions, including on the transport of dangerous goods (RID).
At present, the exact impact on rail traffic has not yet been confirmed, but the situation is being actively monitored.
Northern Europe: Rail network disruptions and construction works
At the same time, extensive construction projects, maintenance activities, and other operational disruptions in Northern Germany are causing additional delays, particularly on the following routes:
- Lübeck – Verona
- Rostock – Verona
- Padborg – Verona
These disruptions affect several areas of the northern rail network and may significantly extend transit times. In addition, short-notice cancellations are possible.
Strikes and rail network disruptions may impact international transport in the form of delays in pickups and deliveries, extended transit times, and possible individual shipment cancellations.
