Train Cancellations in European Traffic – Impacts on DHL Freight Shipments

March 23, 2026

Railway construction work currently underway on the Oberaudorf–Fischbach section in Germany continues to cause disruptions to European rail traffic. Single-track operation has led to congestion, resulting in the cancellation of one train rotation on Saturday, 21 March 2026, on both the Rostock/Travemünde–Verona and Verona–Rostock/Travemünde routes.

As the cancelled train departures were already fully booked, transport units are being moved to the next available departures in stages, causing delays also on the days following the cancellations.

The train cancellations also affect DHL Freight’s shipments, as the majority of our traffic to and from Italy is intermodal, with trailers travelling part of the journey by rail.

DHL Freight’s actions

DHL Freight is closely monitoring the situation in cooperation with rail operators and is taking the necessary measures to minimise delays and secure transport capacity. Shipments will be moved to the next possible departures without any action required from customers.

Shipment progress can be monitored in the myDHLFreight portal.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.
