DHL GIVES BACK TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES ON DHL GLOBAL VOLUNTEER DAY 2021

Press Release: Tokyo, Japan, October 12, 2021

About 1,500 DHL employees contributed to communities across Japan

DHL, the world‘s leading logistics service provider, marked Global Volunteer Day (GVD), an annual employee volunteering program that promotes giving back to the community and fostering the spirit of volunteerism among employees, through various activities held  from 20th September to 3rd October 2021.  About 1,500 DHL employees from across the divisions of Deutsche Post DHL (DPDHL) Group in Japan participated in the annual event lending their dedication, time and skills to serve society and the environment. Many employees found creative ways to participate despite COVID-19 restrictions.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions in Japan, DHL arranged volunteer activities in a small group with families and friends, such as collecting used stamps for medical help, hair donation for patients suffering from diseases, fundraising for healthcare workers fighting against Covid-19, blood donation and community cleaning.  Through the period, about 1,500 employees with their families and friends participated in GVD programs on their own.

Tony Khan, President and Representative Director of DHL Express Japan says, “As the world’s leading logistics company, we practice ethical responsibility to give back to the society. I’m very proud of our employees doing their best for society under very limited circumstances. Despite the challenges from the pandemic, we will continue with our corporate social responsibility programs to build a sustainable future.”

Alfred Goh, President and Representative Director, DHL Supply Chain Japan added, "We are committed to being a global leader to realize a sustainable future.  I am very pleased that many employees value volunteering and participate in GVD programs to contribute to the society.  We will continue to carry out our programs to create a positive impact in the society where we operate.”

Charles Kaufmann, President and Representative Director, DHL Global Forwarding Japan K.K. said, “This is the second year in which we are conducting our GVD activities during the pandemic and the State of Emergency still in place. Despite this, I’m proud that my colleagues continued to organize GVD activities to further instill awareness among our employees and their family members. We also held a fund-raising activity for the Nippon Foundation, whose mission is to bring help to those in need which closely aligns with our purpose of ‘Connecting people, improving lives’. It is our firm commitment to continue GVD in the future years, and align with the SDGs that we are supporting as a company.”

Global Volunteer Day is a community outreach program to instill the spirit of volunteerism among DHL employees, encouraging them to devote time and efforts to create positive impacts in their local communities. Employees organize activities that are aligned with Group's Corporate Responsibility programs, such as GoGreen (protecting the environment), GoHelp (delivering help), GoTeach (improving educational opportunity and employability) and GoTrade (facilitating international business). Each year over 100,000 employees are involved in providing support to non-profit projects in their local communities as part of the GVD program, contributing in more than 100 countries around the world. The number of local volunteer projects has grown steadily in the past few years. Deutsche Post DHL Group is proud that every year, more and more employees dedicate themselves to volunteer engagement. Launched in 2008, GVD is now in its 14th year.  In 2020, some 104,000 employees invested about 159,000 hours of volunteering in 2070 projects in countries worldwide.
