DHL EXPRESS TOKYO DISTRIBUTION CENTER IS MORIKAWA’S ‘BASICKS’ SHOW VENUE DURING RAKUTEN FASHION WEEK
Press Release: Tokyo, Japan, September 1, 2022

- The ‘BASICKS’ show features upcycled looks of DHL uniforms
- DHL supports the worldwide delivery of the collection to customers with DHL GoGreen service
DHL Express, the world’s leading international express service provider, supported the execution of designer Masanori Morikawa's first runway show for his brand BASICKS at the Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO 2023 S/S on 1 September 2022 at DHL Tokyo Distribution Center. This is the first time a Japanese fashion brand will hold a show at a logistics facility. The runway featured items upcycled from DHL uniforms, designed by Morikawa, who shares the same commitment to sustainability as DHL. DHL will also handle international shipping to customers via its GoGreen service.

Tony Khan, President and Representative Director of DHL Express Japan said, “Although the logistics and fashion industries are different, the need for sustainability initiatives to fulfill responsibilities towards environment is no different. We are honored to help Morikawa realize the world's first fashion show for 'BASICKS', which also embodies sustainable fashion, at our Tokyo Distribution Center.”
The DHL uniforms, intended to be scrapped, were reused, designed, produced by Morikawa and finally presented on stage as women's tops such as bra tops, halter necks, and the brand's classic denim bottoms. The show's final piece, a crinoline dress, was a main attraction for the show audience.

After the runway show, Morikawa commented, "This show was held at DHL’s delivery center, which is the frontline and also represents constant 'consumption'. We held the show with the support of DHL, a company that promotes sustainability through electric vehicles and uses solar energy at its facilities to reduce CO2 emissions. I want to thank everyone who has supported us so far."
The collection, presented for the first time worldwide at the fashion show, will be available worldwide on the official brand website from 16 September 2022 (Friday). DHL Express's climate-neutral shipping service 'GoGreen' will deliver these upcycled items internationally to customers. DHL GoGreen is an international shipping service that offsets virtually zero CO2 emissions from freight transport by investing in climate protection and emission reduction projects.
DHL has long been a partner of the fashion industry, pioneering transport solutions tailored to the needs of designers and sellers and contributing behind the scenes at the world's most glamorous fashion events. As part of its sustainability efforts, DHL has set a goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 under ‘Mission 2050’. In recent years, it has accelerated the introduction of environmentally friendly delivery vehicles such as electric vehicles, electric bikes and tri-cycles in Japan. The Tokyo Distribution Center, where the fashion show was held, will also add new renewable energy solutions by autumn this year.
