DHL Freight: CBAM - don´t risk delaying your shipments at the borders
2026-01-26
Are you affected by CBAM?
As of 1 January 2026, a new phase of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) has entered into force. If you import emission-intensive goods into the EU, you must inform us how you are affected to avoid potential delays or holds at the border.
With the start of the definitive CBAM phase on 1 January 2026, new document codes have been introduced.
If you import goods covered by CBAM (for example iron, steel, aluminum, or cement), we require information from you to ensure that the correct document code is declared in the import declaration. Please refer to the CBAM document codes applicable to your goods.
If you expect to import CBAM goods in quantities exceeding the threshold (50 tons per year), you are required to apply to become an authorized CBAM declarant. If you have not yet submitted your application, we strongly recommend doing so as soon as possible.
Have you already applied to become a CBAM declarant?
Please let us know whether you are already registered or have submitted an application. In either case, we require your CBAM account number or application reference number.
Please identify the document code applicable to your goods flow and send it together with your CBAM account number or application reference number to:
customs.se@dhl.com
Subject line: CBAM
To avoid disruptions in the transport chain, we kindly ask you to respond as soon as possible, and no later than 13 February 2026.
This communication provides general information on CBAM and its scope. For further guidance or questions regarding how CBAM applies to your business, please contact your national competent authority or customs administration.
