2026-05-29 – DHL Freight: Summer Traffic 2026 Applies to all international products
Subject: Summer and Holiday Traffic (Weeks 27–35)
During weeks 27–35, DHL Freight operates on a summer/holiday schedule. This means reduced capacity and fewer departures compared to the regular period, which in some cases may result in longer transit times.
During the summer, transport operations are affected by factors such as reduced ferry capacity for freight. On certain routes, for example to the United Kingdom, departures may be cancelled entirely. Passenger traffic is prioritized on many ferry lines, which can lead to delays in traffic to and from the Continent as well as Finland, the Baltic countries, and Central Europe.
In several European countries, including France, Germany, Poland, and Austria, driving restrictions for heavy goods vehicles are introduced during the summer, particularly on weekends. In Mediterranean countries, especially Italy, the holiday period is very extensive in August, which may also negatively impact transit times.
To help ensure the smoothest possible deliveries during the summer period, we recommend that you:
- book shipments well in advance
- ensure that recipients are not closed for holidays
