2026-05-29 – DHL Freight: New road toll in the Netherlands

Applies to the international products DHL Road Freight Standard, Road Freight Priority, Standard Pallet International, Home Delivery International and Road Freight Direct for traffic to and from the Netherlands and transit through Belgium, France, Spain and Portugal.

New road toll in the Netherlands 1 July 2026

On 1 July, a distance-based road toll for trucks will be introduced in the Netherlands. All trucks with a gross weight of 3.5 tonnes or more, regardless of nationality, must pay a fee per kilometer driven. The Dutch road toll will cover all motorways as well as certain regional and municipal roads. The fee levels have unfortunately not yet been finally decided by the Dutch parliament. The charges will (once determined) be differentiated depending on the truck’s weight and CO₂ emissions. DHL Freight will pass on the applicable road toll to our customers for shipments to and from the Netherlands and transit through Belgium, France, Spain and Portugal as of 1 July. (As we previously notified in our customer newsletter)
