DHL Supply Chain Breaks Ground on Chitose Logistics Center in Hokkaido

Press Release: Tokyo, August 21, 2025

Provide logistics support to help the Japanese semiconductor industry grow and revitalize the local economy

DHL Supply Chain Japan will commence construction of its new logistics center dedicated to the semiconductor industry in Chitose City, Hokkaido. A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the construction site on August 19, 2025.

This project supports the Japanese government's initiative to strengthen the domestic semiconductor industry and revitalize the local economy. By expanding logistics capabilities in Hokkaido, the facility will enhance supply chain stability and flexibility, providing vital support to the semiconductor industry. It also forms a strategic part of DHL Supply Chain’s global growth plan to double its business by 2030.

Located adjacent to the next-generation semiconductor industrial cluster in Chitose, which is attracting investments from Japan and abroad, the Chitose Logistics Center will offer advanced, high-value-added logistics services including inventory storage, in-plant logistics, and on-demand delivery of engineering parts to semiconductor manufacturing equipment manufacturers and material suppliers. With a strategic location near the New Chitose Airport Interchange, the site offers excellent connectivity, just six minutes from New Chitose Airport and 20 minutes from leading semiconductor research and development and manufacturing facilities, ensuring strong domestic and international access.

Capitalizing on this location, the facility will also serve as a transportation hub connecting Hokkaido with other regions, enhancing the speed and flexibility of semiconductor supply chains.

Jerome Gillet, President & Representative Director, CEO Japan and Korea, DHL Supply Chain, said, “I am very pleased that our Chitose Logistics Center will serve as a hub, contributing to the growth of Hokkaido’s semiconductor ecosystem and the revitalization of the local economy. By drawing on DHL's global network and advanced logistics technology, we will support the semiconductor industry through precise quality control, timely delivery of precision parts, and responsiveness to the field's needs. DHL Supply Chain remains committed to providing sustainable supply chains that balance reliability and environmental responsibilities, strengthening Japan’s industrial foundation and helping our customers grow and stay competitive.”

The DHL Chitose Logistics Center will be a single-story, multi-user facility with a total floor area of approximately 14,500 square meters (4,400 tsubo), designed for flexible, high-functioning operations to meet advanced logistics needs. Sustainable features include the use of renewable energy for the facility and operations, rainwater harvesting to optimize water use, and LED lighting with motion sensors to improve energy efficiency.

The facility is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
