DHL SUPPLY CHAIN PROVIDES OVER TWO TONNES OF MATERIAL TO PRODUCE 18,000 MEDICAL FACE SHIELDS
Press Release: 04/09/2020

They will be donated to hospitals and health centres across Poland
As the threat caused by the COVID-19 pandemic continues to grow, the whole world is facing the challenge of its effective containment. Health centres, clinics, and hospitals report demand for products to protect against virus infection. In cooperation with a group of Warsaw volunteers working with new technologies, electronics, computer science and mechanics, DHL Supply Chain supports the production of medical face shields that will help medical staff to be effectively protected against the coronavirus.
“We have for years been striving to support various initiatives, so in response to the current pandemic, it is a natural decision for us to help and make the fight against coronavirus more successful. We chose to respond to the demand from the health service regarding the lack of protective equipment, which is the first line of protection in the event of contact with an infected person. We decided to buy and provide over 2 tonnes of material, which will be used by volunteers to fabricate protective face shields for health professionals. We are proud that we can help the people who fight for our health and save lives every day”, says Piotr Okurowski, Managing Director of DHL Supply Chain in Poland.
Over 30 volunteers from Warsaw association are working every day to make face shields using special machines, which are then delivered free of charge to hospitals and health centres across Poland. In the Mazovia province alone, over 1,500 finished products have already been delivered. As of 6 April, the volunteers have produced almost 12,000 face shields.
Due to the growing demand for protective equipment, the Warsaw association has made the face shield design and instructions for home production available on its website. The volunteers are also looking for people with 3D printers who could support the production of headbands compatible with the Prusa RC2 face shield.
