DHL Express Bangladesh Inks Deal With BRAC Bank Signing Up for GoGreen Plus Service

Press Release: Dhaka, Bangladesh, 22 Dec 2024

BRAC Bank signs up for DHL’s GoGreen Plus to help reduce 30% of its greenhouse gas emissions of their international shipments

DHL Express, the world’s leading international express service provider, has welcomed BRAC Bank to its GoGreen Plus initiative. The GoGreen Plus service is part of DHL’s broader strategy to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its logistics network and support businesses in achieving their sustainability goals. Through this partnership, BRAC Bank aims to reduce 30% of its GHG emissions from cross-border shipments.

GoGreen Plus allows customers to co-invest in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through a book and claim methodology. The resulting GHG emissions reduction from the investment amount can then be credited for Scope 3 emission reporting, which refers to the indirect greenhouse gases produced in a company's value chain. SAF is currently one of the most viable solutions for long-distance flights, while leaving room for future innovations in sustainable technologies. SAF is made from renewable energy, sustainable biomass or waste, SAF can also cut the lifecycle GHG emissions of conventional aviation fuel around80%.

Through GoGreen Plus, BRAC Bank is taking a decisive step toward reducing the environmental footprint of its operations, aligning with its focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

Md. Miarul Haque, Managing Director of DHL Express Bangladesh, said, “DHL Express is committed to driving sustainability across the logistics sector. We are delighted to have BRAC Bank on board our GoGreen Plus service. Their commitment to ESG values is exemplary, and this collaboration underscores how organizations can work together to create meaningful impact for a more sustainable future.”

BRAC Bank has embedded ESG into its corporate strategy. It views leveraging GoGreen Plus as an extension of its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

Mr. Sabbir Hossain, DMD and Chief Operating Officer of BRAC Bank, stated, “At BRAC Bank, sustainability is a fundamental part of our operations. Using DHL’s GoGreen Plus service allows us to integrate more sustainable practices into our logistics processes and contribute to global efforts to combat climate change. We are inspired by DHL’s leadership in this space and proud to be part of this journey.”

DHL Group has committed to achieving net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. It has procured up to 800 million liters of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through partnerships with bp & Neste, and 668 liters with World Energy, contributing to efforts aimed at decarbonization in the aviation industry. Alongside this, DHL continues to invest in electric vehicles for its ground operations, and aims to electrify 66%of our last mile pick-up and delivery fleet by 2030.
