In action for our customer: Postal vote Albania

Parliamentary elections were held in Albania on 11 May. For the LEJ Hub, this meant a very special mission: About four weeks before the election, DHL Express received the order to send the election documents to Albanian voters worldwide – and in a second step to transport the completed documents back to Albania.

Dominique Hesse  works as a trainer and performance expert in the QCC (Quality Control Center) and, together with her team, supervised the assignment at the LEJ Hub. "The special feature of this election was that the documents were not sent to embassies as usual, but directly to the registered voters," she explains.

A total of around a quarter of a million albanian people had registered for the election. A logistical challenge for the worldwide express network and especially for the LEJ Hub. "We received the order at relatively short notice and therefore had little time to prepare," reports Dominique. “We couldn't handle the additional volume of shipments on our regular flights, so we used additional charter flights.”

In the days leading up to May 11, the time pressure increased significantly once again: The completed election documents had to arrive in Tirana in time to be taken into account in the count. In special Dedicated Tirana Election Bags , the shipments were pre-sorted in the Flyer Sort and prepared directly for departure."

"This is not the first time that DHL Express has supported a postal vote," says Dominique. "But on this scale, it was definitely a premiere."

Her conclusion: "At the LEJ Hub, we have once again proven what a strong team we are – every department involved has achieved something extraordinary: from the Flyer Sort to the Found Shipment Center, Sort Control and the Hub Control Center to the ramp and many more. We could all rely on each other."
