Wintersportstar @ LEJ Hub

For winter sports fans, the name Nico Walther is well known for many years. The 2018 Olympic silver medalist visited the LEJ Hub together with a film crew for a two-day shoot in June.

Nico began his career in luge at the age of six, and later switched to bobsleigh. He was able to achieve many successes in the form of podiums and victories in the yellow and red sled. After ending his career as a bobsleigh pilot in 2020, he began the training as a commercial pilot in Essen. Now he's back in DHL colors and is really taking off again as Second Officer on the B777: "DHL has accompanied me as a partner in the last 6 years of my winter sports career and is therefore of course also an important part of my success. So it's all the nicer to be able to work for the DHL joint venture, AeroLogic."

Filming at the Leipzig Hub took place mainly on the apron and in the plane, but the main building of AeroLogic and the terminals were also visited. The pilot was impressed by the LEJ Hub: “It was really exciting. The complex logistics behind this hub cannot be put into words.

Interview in the terminal: Nico talks about his career

The aim of the shoot was to produce videos on various topics for internal and external media. Insights behind the scenes of the hub were of course also part of it. But that was not the end of the shooting.

Nico's film team was already at the start the next morning and accompanied the flight crew during the preparations in the cockpit. The DHL branded machine left punctually at 6:55 a.m. in the direction of Singapore. Filming continued on the flight deck during the 12-hour flight.
