Exceptional weather conditions are causing disruptions to transport across Europe

January 8, 2026

Exceptionally severe winter conditions are causing widespread disruptions to international transport across Europe. Heavy snowfall and icy conditions have affected transport in several regions, including Central Europe and Sweden. The situation may lead to delays in DHL Freight shipments as well.

Central Europe: snow, storms and infrastructure disruptions

In several Central European countries, weather conditions have caused extensive disturbances to both road and rail traffic. For example, the German Weather Service has issued warnings for heavy snowfall, storms, freezing temperatures and icy conditions. As a result, rail infrastructure in Germany is under significant strain, leading to restrictions, track closures, delays and potential train cancellations.

Challenging winter conditions are also affecting other countries, including France, the Netherlands, Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The impacts are particularly noticeable in international transport chains where rail is an integral part of the logistics solution.

Sweden: Heavy snowfall delays deliveries and pickups

In Sweden, exceptionally heavy snowfall has caused major traffic disruptions in several regions. This is resulting in longer lead times and may delay both deliveries and pickups across all DHL Freight products.

We apologize for any delays caused by these exceptional weather conditions. You can conveniently track your shipment’s progress in the myDHLFreight portal.
