  • From 1 January 2021, companies exporting from the EU to the UK (and vice versa), must have UK (GB) and EU EORI numbers (Economic Operators' Registration and Identification number). Obtain a UK EORI number. It will arrive by email, usually within 3 working days.

Register for an EU EORI number

Furthermore, if you move goods to or from Northern Ireland, from 1 January 2021 you need an EORI number that starts with XI to:

    • Move goods between Northern Ireland and non-EU countries
    • Make a declaration in Northern Ireland
    • Get a customs decision in Northern Ireland

To request an EORI number that starts with XI, you must already have an EORI number that starts with GB. If you do not have one, apply for an EORI number that starts with GB as soon as possible.

  • It is now a legal requirement for all wood packaging material (including pallets, boxes and crates) moving in both directions between the UK and the EU to be compliant with a treatment and mark as specified in the International Standard for Phytosanitary measures No 15 (ISPM15).

By law, all companies in the UK involved in producing ISPM15 compliant wood packaging material (WPM) must be authorised to do so by a valid certificate.

To support UK manufacturers and exporters in demonstrating compliance with ISPM15, the United Kingdom Wood Packaging Material Marking Programme (UKWPMMP) has been established to regulate the manufacture, repair and re-manufacture of ISPM15 compliant WPM in the UK.

For wooden packaging to comply with ISPM15 it must:

    • Meet the ISPM 15 bark tolerance requirements; and
    • Have been subjected to an ISPM 15 approved treatment by an appropriately certified treatment provider or manufacturer and have been marked appropriately. The two primary approved treatments are either heat treatment or fumigation.

There will be potential delays and penalties for non-compliance with regards to WPM, so please ensure that you ship your goods using the compliant pallets.
