DHL Supply Chain Australia (DHL) today announced the deployment of advanced automation at its pharmaceutical-grade Life Sciences and Healthcare (LSHC) logistics facility in South-West Sydney. The investment supports DHL Group’s Strategy 2030 focus on Life Sciences & Healthcare and strengthens the DHL Health Logistics network in Australia.

DHL LSHC South-West Sydney facility is part of the DHL Health Logistics network aimed at meeting the evolving needs of the life sciences and healthcare sector. The multi-tenant facility serves more than 40 customers within Australia’s highly regulated life sciences and healthcare sector, including key players in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and diagnostics.

DHL Supply Chain Australia & New Zealand CEO Steve Thompsett said: “We are committed to supporting our life sciences and healthcare customers, whose work is essential to the wellbeing of Australians. At our LSHC facility in South-West Sydney, we are deploying proven automation technology where it delivers tangible operational impact for customers and patients. This enhances our capacity, agility, and responsiveness, enabling us to deliver flexible and scalable solutions that meet evolving customer and market demands.

This investment strengthens our operational excellence and presents new opportunities for our workforce, using technology to complement human expertise with innovation to deliver reliable outcomes for our customers.”

Featuring an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) by Hai Robotics, the automation spans over 3,000 square metres. It includes 14,700 shelving locations, 14,000 inventory totes serviced by 12 AS/RS bots, five Goods-to-Person (GTP) pick stations, six dedicated decant and pack stations, and 10 smart dispatch sortation lanes, meeting the needs of 20 existing customers.

The 36,237 square metres DHL LSHC facility also features built-in sustainability measures, including renewable electricity generation through a 1 MWp rooftop solar system with grid electricity consumption matched through locally purchased renewable energy certificates (RECs). The facility also features LED lighting with sensor-based controls, smart energy metering, high-efficiency HVAC with intelligent controls, cool roofing, rainwater harvesting and reuse, water-efficient fixtures and rapid-rise roller doors that help reduce energy loss.

The DHL LSHC South-West Sydney facility automation investment further expands DHL Health Logistics' capabilities in Australia and complements the company's network of healthcare facilities and specialised logistics solutions across the Asia Pacific region.
