What e-commerce brands should consider the Czech Republic?

Any e-commerce company looking for a foothold in a stable and strong economy, with a central location in Europe, would benefit from warehousing their goods and fulfilling orders in the Czech Republic.

You could be in any sector: electronics, consumer appliances, beauty and wellness, homewares, fashion, pet supplies, you name it.

It’s a location that suits many sellers. “You could be a Czech-based company. You could be a company based in another part of Europe, say Scandinavia,” says Kamil Řezáč, Senior Sales Manager CEE & Turkey, DHL Fulfillment Network. “You could be a company from perhaps APAC or North America that is looking to increase its footprint across Europe: you’re not just setting up in the Czech Republic: you’re setting up in the European Union (EU). And if you’re based outside Europe, the Czech Republic offers you a great option in terms of consolidating bulk shipments and streamlining customs clearance in line with EU de minimis rules.”

Why is the Czech Republic special?

  1. Location
“From just one warehouse in the Czech Republic, you can directly access the countries that border ours: Austria, Germany, Poland and Slovakia, and you can reach a larger part of the EU efficiently too,” says Kamil. This will resonate with companies with a CEE and DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) distribution strategy.
  2. Road and rail infrastructure
Strong motorway connections to neighboring countries, particularly from the major cities of Prague, Brno and Ostrava, make for excellent daily linehaul connections. There are daily rail connections to Rotterdam Port.
  3. Workforce
“We have a highly educated workforce and, as we have been a key player in logistics for many years, people working in the industry have a lot of experience, especially in fulfillment, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), automation, customer service and returns” Kamil tells us. “We also have higher employment rates than the EU average.”  Czech Republic can offer a competitive overall operating cost environment compared with a number of Western and Northern European markets. This can support efficient delivery of labor-intensive fulfillment activities, including pick and pack, returns management and value-added services.
  4. Access to Germany
“Germany is one of the most important e-commerce markets in Europe,” says Kamil “and so companies often locate their warehousing and fulfillment on the west of the Czech Republic as that way they can provide fast access to Germanyy.”
  5. Industrial and e-commerce infrastructure
“We have many long-standing logistics parks around the cities of Prague, Brno, Plzeň and Ostrava,” says Kamil. “The industrial and e-commerce ecosystems are very well established, and we boast a lot of extremely advanced warehouses.”
  6. Last mile coverage
A wide span of carriers offers last mile delivery in the Czech Republic, giving sellers the option to adopt a multi-carrier strategy, rather than depending on just one.
  7. EU country
“As we are in the EU, there are no customs barriers for shipments into and out of other EU countries, and we use EU regulatory standards,” says Kamil.

Kamil sums up the advantages of the Czech Republic for trade: Fulfillment location typically involves balancing proximity to key customer markets with the overall operating environment. Western European locations can offer strong proximity to major markets, while locations further east may provide different cost and network advantages. The Czech Republic offers an attractive balance: a central European location, strong access to key markets and a competitive operating environment.

The Czech Republic is one of the 29 countries featured in DHL’s 2026 E-Commerce Trends Report, which surveyed 29,000 shoppers and 5,800 e-commerce businesses worldwide. “It notes that younger shoppers are driving cross-border shopping globally, and that international shopping is up 10% year-on-year. Delivery and customs are deal breakers for cross-border e-commerce, both for shoppers and sellers: so if you get these things right, you can open up a whole new market – and steal a march on the competition,” observes Kamil. The survey unearthed several interesting points about the Czech Republic, including the fact that parcel lockers are very popular for individuals for both receiving and returning parcels. It is foreseen that e-commerce will grow across all major platforms in the Czech Republic, from retailers’ websites to social media, apps, product subscriptions and significantly via AI-powered chat and virtual assistants. Sustainability is important to Czech shoppers and businesses too, with many shoppers preferring to purchase from companies that partner with sustainable delivery providers.

Sellers can locate their stock in warehouses close to their end customers, lowering delivery times, costs and emissions. They can scale up for peak seasons and then scale back down, an approach made easy through our pay-per-use model. Thanks to us, sellers can be agile, capitalizing on opportunities when they arise.

We onboard new customers rapidly and integrate with their webshop efficiently. All our customers also have access to our advanced inventory insights tool, a dashboard that allows them to see their stock levels and movements by location. They can analyze this data to help them plan and forecast.

Kamil notes some of the advanced services offered: “We are proud to provide a number of value-added services to Czech Republic customers,” notes Kamil. “For example, for one customer we assemble electronic switchboards before these are sent to their end customers, and for one customer we program tablets and photocopiers.” Handling high-value goods like this is possible thanks to the security protocols in place. “For another customer we take 3D pictures of their goods and upload them to their webshop.”

“For us, partnering is key. We are open and transparent with our customers, as we know this is the best way to be mutually successful,” says Kamil. “With one client we started off handling 300 pallets per week and this has quickly risen to several thousand. This is the sort of growth we know it’s possible for companies to achieve when we handle their e-commerce fulfillment in the Czech Republic.”
