SURCHARGES

Changes in fuel prices have resulted in increased overall costs for the transport industry, necessitating the introduction of a variable fuel surcharge which may rise, fall or be removed to align with movements in fuel prices.

DHL Global Forwarding Surcharges

  • As a result of an ongoing Class Action Suit in the U.S.A., airlines who had previously published a Jet Fuel Index have now removed these from their websites. As a consequence, DHL Global Forwarding has also ceased to publish a Jet Fuel Index. 

    If you require guidance on jet fuel price development, an independent indicator can be found on the IATA website.

  • After the terrorist attacks of September 11 2001, all carriers had to increase their security measures tremendously, also for air freight transportation. To cover these and their heavily increased insurance costs, they implemented the Security Surcharge (SSC). DHL Global Forwarding must collect this for the carriers without adding any profit margin; this is a pass-through cost only.

DHL Road Freight Surcharges

The DHL Global Forwarding Road Fuel Surcharge for March 2012 is 11.5%.

Due to the continuing rise of fuel prices DHL has found it necessary to implement a fuel surcharge on International Road Freight products. During the recent past oil prices have continuously increased and all Ferry companies have imposed Surcharges on their shipping routes. To date, DHL Global Forwarding has absorbed the full impact of these increases. However, the magnitude of these costs has now become so significant that this is no longer possible

All DHL Global Forwarding International Road Freight products are impacted by this surcharge (e.g. Euroconnect, , LTL, FTL, Euroline, Euronet, etc). A flexible surcharge will be applied in accordance with the table below. This means that DHL Global Forwarding will continue to adjust the surcharge in line with future movements in fuel prices.

Details of the surcharge will be updated each month on this site.

The surcharge will apply to all International Road Freight products and will be linked to the last week of the month average consumer prices of diesel fuel inclusive of duties and taxes (weighted average V). Weekly updates are published by The European Commission Directorate General for Energy and Transport. The last week of the month average will be used to surcharge shipments for the following month.

Please check this web site regularly for any updates or changes.

    • There is a one month lag in the application of the index. That is, the last week of the month average for fuel in January 2009 will be used to determine the applicable surcharge in March 2009. This is due to the release dates of the data
    • Fuel Surcharge updates will be updated accordingly on the 15th of every month
    • We reserve the right to change the fuel surcharge index and table without notice. Both amount and duration of the fuel surcharge will be determined at DHL's sole discretion
