Driving Ambition Scheme

Where available, DHL offers fully funded licence training to Cat C or C&E via the Driving Ambition scheme. The scheme operates from the Transport Development Centre located in Daventry or can also take place at a DHL site that has identified LGV Trainee Driver vacancies as part of its recruitment plans.

How to apply:

You will need to select and apply for one of the clearly marked LGV Training roles on our careers pages. Successful applicants will be expected to complete the following four stages:

  1. Getting your Provisional Licence - including a medical
  2. CPC Theory Testing - case study and application for a digital tachograph card
  3. Practical Test – training, ability test, practical demonstration and, upon successful completion, issue of your DQC card
  4. Starting Your New Role – completion of the transition process

Applications can only be made through an identified LGV Trainee Driver role via our careers website, and we are unfortunately unable to accept expressions of interest through the TDC email address.

    What do you enjoy about driving/why did you become a driver?

    I always knew I wanted to be a driver – driving was in the family and I was always interested in it. At a young age I joined the Royal Airforce where I originally became a driver before joining DHL later down the line. My world just collided with DHL and I haven’t looked back since.

    What makes DHL your employer of choice?

    There’s never any bias with DHL, no-one will tell you that you can’t do something. I have a fantastic work life balance and work with a great bunch of people. 

  • What three words would you use to describe DHL?

    Respectful. Caring. Accommodating.

    What do you enjoy about driving/why did you become a driver?

    I became a driver as I sought the freedom to manage my time, manage my day, and be my own boss on the road. I love driving, every day is different and I am just really happy being a driver.

    I have a great shift pattern which allows me the work life balance that I seek to have alongside my driving career.

    What do you enjoy about driving/why did you become a driver?

    Having always admired Lorries and Truck driving, I always knew being a driver was amongst my interests. Starting off as a Drivers mate with DHL, I worked my way through my licenses with the company before becoming a Driver.

    The fact that DHL does everything above board, makes DHL my Employer of Choice. With a focus on things done properly, through a safe system, it really is a Great Place to Work.

    Motivating. Consistent. Progressive.

    What do you enjoy about driving/why did you become a driver?

    The sense of freedom attracted me to driving. On every contract there are different things going on and different settings, giving you variety every day.

    The opportunities within DHL are endless. Whether it’s a different vehicle or mode of transport, through to working on another contract and having a complete change within the DHL umbrella, there is always room to explore different potential avenues throughout your career.

    What do you enjoy about driving/why did you become a driver?

    Driving my lorry and feeling like the Queen of the road is why I love being a driver. It must be said though, I also work with a great bunch of people.
