Commerce Trends: Ramadan

This year, the holy month of Ramadan begins in the UK on the evening of Saturday 2nd April and will finish at sundown on Sunday 1st May. The dates are based on the appearance of the first crescent of a new moon so vary slightly across countries, although usually by only a day.

Around 1.6 billion1 Muslims across the world are expected to join in the 30 days of reflection, contemplation and celebration.

But, what does this mean for businesses? Discover spoke with Manal Arar, Country Marketing Manager of DHL Express UAE, to glean insights on how the holy festival can affect spending, browsing, and business practices among those who observe it.

We will explore the meaning behind Ramadan, the changes in schedule and lifestyle that occur during the holy month, how different regions operate in different ways during this time, and how industries can adapt in the build-up to Eid al-Fitr to make the most of the purchasing power of the Muslim economy. We will cover m-commerce, e-commerce, travel, fashion, charity, and approaching potential customers during this time.

From Southeast Asia to the Middle East, and the US to the UK, our deep dive into how the festival is observed and celebrated aims to deliver the information you need to help your e-commerce business grow around the world – before, during, and after the holiest of months for Muslim customers.
