Cargo Fuel Surcharge
For Shipments ex. Hong Kong
Given the IATA Jet Fuel Price of $204.95 the latest Cargo Fuel Surcharge for long-haul will be HKD 15.80/kg and short-haul will be HKD 3.30/kg, effective from 30 Mar to 5 Apr 2026.
Background: On 1 January 2025, the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department removed its Cargo Fuel Surcharge (CFS) mechanism.
Airlines became permitted to implement their own methodology to calculate CFS levels for flights ex-Hong Kong.
How our Cargo Fuel Surcharge Calculations Work
We will use the IATA Jet Fuel Price, specifically the Asia & Oceania fuel price, as the Prevailing Oil Price. When the weekly average IATA Jet Fuel Price is at or below $100.99/bbl, the adjustment of the cargo fuel surcharge (increase or decrease) will follow the standard mechanism and will be based on the IATA Jet Fuel Price as of the second Friday of each month.
When the IATA Jet Fuel Price exceeds USD 100.99/bbl, a weekly mechanism will apply. We will check the fuel price every Tuesday, and the fuel surcharge will be issued based on the latest published weekly fuel price available at the time of calculation. This price will be used for the following week’s surcharge, effective from Monday.
Once the weekly average IATA Jet Fuel Price stays at USD 100.99/bbl or below for four consecutive weeks, the exceptional weekly mechanism will end, and the surcharge calculation will revert to the standard monthly mechanism based on the IATA Jet Fuel Price published for the second Friday of each month.
