DHL eCommerce Solutions utilizes an indexed fuel surcharge that is adjusted monthly, based upon the fuel prices published monthly by the U.S. Department of Energy. We also assess a peak surcharge for packages sent during specified peak timeframes. Surcharges may differ by product. Please see additional details below for specifics on both of these surcharges.
Changes to the surcharge will continue to be effective the first day of each month.
Domestic Products and International IPA Products
These terms apply to:
- Domestic Expedited Max
- Expedited and Ground parcel and mail products
- International IPA parcel and mail products
The fuel surcharge calculation is linked to the monthly rounded average of the national U.S. On-Highway average price for a gallon of diesel fuel as published by the U.S. Department of Energy. DHL eCommerce Solutions applies the monthly rounded average from the period two months prior to calculate the applicable fuel surcharge percentage. For instance, the February 2018 fuel surcharge would be based on the U.S. On-Highway monthly rounded average from December 2017.

These terms apply to:
- All International mail and parcel products, excluding IPA International products.
The fuel surcharge calculation is linked to the monthly rounded average of the price for a gallon of kerosene-type jet fuel as published by the U.S. Department of Energy using the U.S. Gulf Coast (USGC) prices for kerosene-type jet fuel. DHL eCommerce Solutions applies the monthly rounded average from the period two months prior to calculate the applicable fuel surcharge. For example, the February 2018 fuel surcharge as calculated by DHL eCommerce was based on the monthly rounded average from December 2017.
