Shipping to APO/FPO/DPO and U.S. Territories

DHL eCommerce is re-introducing service coverage for shipments to APO/FPO/DPO military addresses and select U.S. Territories. This page outlines key requirements, restrictions, and service expectations to help ensure a smooth shipping experience.

What is APO, FPO, and DPO?

APO, FPO, and DPO are part of special addressing for U.S. military and diplomatic mail for personnel stationed overseas. While these shipments are considered domestic by USPS, they require customs documentation due to international routing.

  • APO (Army Post Office): Army and Air Force locations
  • FPO (Fleet Post Office): Navy and Marine Corps locations
  • DPO (Diplomatic Post Office): U.S. Embassy and diplomatic locations

  • BPM Products (GRD, EXP)

Important: MAX service is not supported for these destinations.

Customs Information Required

Each item must include commodity information:  detailed description, quantity, and value

Label Requirements

Shipping labels created via DHL eCommerce API will contain an integrated customs declaration form

System Updates

API customers and 3PLs must ensure their systems pass required commodity data through or label creation will fail.

 

Shipping Restrictions

  • API labels only.  Not available via ESM or Vantage label creation
  • No Dangerous Goods (DG) allowed to these Zip Codes
  • Maximum 5 items per shipment
  • Maximum declared value: $400 per package

Transit Times & Service Expectations

  • Service promise does not apply to these ZIP codes
  • Longer transit times should be expected due to military and overseas routing
  • APO/FPO/DPO shipments may take as long as 30–45 days

  • 006–009: Zone 11 (Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands)
  • 967–969: Zone 12 (Hawaii & Pacific Territories)

APO/FPO/DPO
