How ready are austrian webshops for international customers?

DHL Express analysed around 18,000 online shops for this year's study and filtered out how suitable Austrian online shops are for international trade. External tools such as SimilarWeb and the "E-Commerce crossborder readiness Check" analysis tool developed by DHL Express were used to analyse the data. 

The aim is to generate the best online shopping experience for international shoppers. Only then is international success even possible.

The four findings listed below are based on the experiences of our e-commerce customers and the analyses of this year's study.

Insight 1

Austrian online shops receive the most visits from the 25 to 34 age group (31%). In Austrian online shops, 48% of total purchases are made by men and 52% are made by women.

Insight 2

Main reasons for cross-border shopping in Austria: value and availability. Customers are looking for products that are difficult to find in their own country and for attractive prices abroad. For 45%, the low price is the main reason for cross-border online shopping.

Insight 3

85% of Austrian online shops offer international shipping. This is offset by the fact that only 3% of these Austrian online shops offer express shipping.

Insight 4

24% of Austrian online shops now offer one or even several foreign languages ​​in their shops.
