Origins of the Award
The initiative to support Czech exports was launched by DHL in 1997 and was inspired by similar projects in Ireland and the Netherlands. At a time when Czech foreign trade was facing significant challenges, the aim was to demonstrate that small and medium-sized enterprises could play a key role in overcoming economic difficulties.
A Track Record of Supporting Czech Exporters
Since its inception, the DHL Export Award has been presented under the auspices of CzechTrade. The inaugural competition in 1997 attracted exceptional interest, with 183 Czech companies taking part and reporting exports of goods and services with a combined value of nearly CZK 11 billion.
Over the years, the competition criteria have gradually evolved to reflect both the dynamic growth of Czech exporters and their successful expansion into challenging international markets. However, its principal mission remains unchanged: to recognize and support small and medium-sized enterprises that achieve significant export growth.
From the 22nd Edition to the 2026 Comeback
The most recent, 22nd edition of the competition took place in 2019. The competition was subsequently suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2026, the prestigious DHL Export Award returns with the same objective: to support, recognize and connect Czech exporters from among the country's small and medium-sized enterprises.
Who's Behind the Award
The award is organized primarily by DHL Express. Other DHL divisions, including DHL Global Forwarding, DHL Freight and DHL Supply Chain, as well as PPL CZ, are also involved in the initiative. The partner and expert guarantor of this year's competition is EGAP, the Export Guarantee and Insurance Corporation.
Key Dates and Award Categories
The competition runs from 22 April 2026 to 3 November 2026. The application deadline is 15 September 2026. The award comprises four categories: Small Company, for businesses with no more than 50 employees and annual turnover of up to CZK 300 million; Medium-Sized Company, for businesses with no more than 250 employees and annual turnover of up to CZK 1.5 billion; Exporter to Asia, intended for medium-sized companies; and the EGAP Export Story Award.
