GoGreen Plus: Reduce the carbon emissions from your international shipping activities with sustainable aviation fuel

GoGreen Plus is the industry's first transportation service that can reduce (inset) CO₂ emissions associated with your shipments by using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced from biomass-derived raw materials such as waste cooking oil and sugarcane.

Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time and affects us all. The DHL Group has set forth "Mission 2050" to reduce and ultimately eliminate logistics-related CO₂ emissions by 2050. We are actively promoting climate change initiatives around the world, such as introducing electric vehicles and making new facilities carbon neutral.

How it works

SAF usage enables up to 80% reduced life cycle emissions
compared to conventional jet fuel.

Collection of waste oils such as used cooking oil or raw materials such as agricultural waste.

1

Raw materials are processed to produce SAF by oil and energy companies

Blended fuel is transported to selected airports within our global network and loaded onto aircrafts.

3

SAF is blended with existing jet fuels. It is specifically designed to be a substitute for traditional jet fuels, so it can work with existing aviation infrastructure.

GoGreen Plus key benefits

Now more than ever, sustainability matters - to the planet, your customers, and your business's bottom line. We're offering a new way to transform your logistics with DHL Express GoGreen Plus, our solution to help reduce the carbon emissions from air shipments using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

We use Sustainable Aviation Fuel made from recycled waste, like used cooking oil or other renewable resources, that is specifically designed to be a substitute for traditional jet fuel.

Reduction of carbon emissions

In contrast to "offsetting" - where businesses “neutralize" their emissions through environmental programs like reforestation and habitat restoration projects - GoGreen Plus is "insetting."

Insetting allows businesses to reduce their Scope 3 emissions, the indirect greenhouse gas emissions that occur in their value chain.

Be recognized as a sustainability leader

Receive certificates with emissions reduction values, which can be used to reduce your own Scope 3 footprint. DHL will also provide a complimentary Carbon Footprint report.

Invest with us in a greener future

Sustainable aviation fuel effectively and immediately reduces carbon emissions in the aviation sector, and we are investing to scale. With three GoGreen Plus options, we make it easy for shippers of any size to join us on this green journey.

Taking environmental protection to the next level

Scope 3 emissions from logistics activities account for a significant portion of a company’s carbon footprint.

With carbon insetting, you can reduce emissions directly within your supply chain, unlike offsetting, which traditionally involves investing in external compensation projects whose emissions savings can be difficult to keep track of.

The GoGreen Plus service is based on the “Book and Claim” mechanism. Wherever shippers ship to or from, carbon emissions savings can be claimed within the DHL global network. This allows GoGreen Plus to be used by shippers everywhere – allowing you to invest with us in a greener tomorrow.

What we are doing at DHL in Japan

In Japan, since 2014, DHL has accelerated the electrification of its delivery fleet by introducing 19 electric vehicles (5 compact cars, 4 one-ton trucks, and 10 three-ton trucks), 3 electric tricycles, and 10 electric motorcycles. In addition, in 2022, DHL introduced renewable energy facilities at the Tokyo Distribution Center in Shin-Kiba, Tokyo, as part of its efforts to reduce emissions from facilities. Most importantly, we continue to invest for the future.
