Thailand joins 40,000+ APAC customers going green with DHL

In today's business landscape, the emphasis on corporate sustainability is more critical than ever, driven by the increasing awareness of environmental issues and the pressing need to mitigate climate change. Companies are responding by adopting sustainable delivery services to reduce their carbon footprints and meet consumer expectations for environmental responsibility.

This rising trend is a central theme in DHL Express’ latest whitepaper: Sustainability in Motion: Understanding Carbon Footprint in Logistics and Supply Chains Across Asia-Pacific Regions. Through insights and case studies, the whitepaper highlights the urgent need for businesses in APAC to address climate change and demonstrates that sustainable logistics are becoming a vital aspect of modern sustainable business practices.

Corporations play a significant role in reducing carbon footprints, with logistics alone projected to account for 40% of global carbon emissions by 2050 if no action is taken. As consumers demand that companies deliver quality products and services in an environmentally responsible manner, DHL Express emerges with DHL GoGreen Plus — a sustainable logistics solution designed to help businesses significantly reduce their Scope 3 carbon emissions. Through the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for shipments, DHL GoGreen Plus is partnering with companies all over the world to make a tangible impact on their sustainability goals.

The growing trend of sustainable logistics solutions

“Sustainability is increasingly becoming an important part of the business for most of our customers. Companies are now more committed than ever to reducing their environmental impact, thus it is important that we provide them with feasible solutions to do so.” — Ken Lee, CEO, Asia Pacific, DHL Express.

The shift towards sustainable logistics in Asia-Pacific is gaining momentum as more businesses recognise the need to reduce their environmental impact. In just one year, over 40,000 customers in the region have signed up with DHL GoGreen Plus as their preferred shipping service, demonstrating their commitment to achieving long-term sustainability goals.

Let’s take a look at some of the brands who have chosen to achieve their sustainability goals by leveraging DHL GoGreen Plus to utilise SAF and decarbonise their shipments.

How DHL Express’ GoGreen Plus Works

The GoGreen Plus program focuses on reducing carbon footprint by using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a cleaner alternative to traditional jet fuel. SAF is produced from renewable sources and has the potential to significantly lower carbon emissions during air transportation. By integrating SAF into their logistics operations, companies can achieve tangible emission reductions directly linked to their supply chain, making it a more effective and accountable approach to reaching corporate sustainability goals.

Customers can opt for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in their shipments simply by:

  1. Selecting the GoGreen service when booking individual shipments on MyDHL+
  2. Sign up for GoGreen Plus contract with DHL Express and choose your preferred emission reduction option

In the contractual model, you decide the level of sustainability for your business by choosing how much CO2 emissions you would like to reduce. An independent auditor will verify the emission reduction value of the purchased SAF, and your company will receive a certificate with the emission reduction value, which can be used to reduce your own Scope 3 footprint. DHL Express will invoice you via your preference of a lump sum or a per kg. charge, along with a complimentary carbon footprint report.

Independent verification

The reductions achieved through GoGreen Plus are verified by an independent third-party agency, Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS). This verification ensures the accuracy of emission reductions, which can be counted towards Scope 3 emissions aligned with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) standards.

Emission tracking and reporting

DHL Express provides businesses with tools to track and report their carbon emission reductions through the GoGreen app. Companies can access detailed reports and data to calculate the impact of their shipments, ensuring transparency and accountability in their sustainability efforts.
