Shipment insurance is an optional, chargeable service that is available for all customers. It covers the full invoice value of your shipment in the unfortunate and rare event that a mishap might occur to your shipment while it is in the care of DHL Express.

With our insurance coverage, you can have peace of mind that your shipment will be fully covered until it reaches its intended recipient.

How does shipping insurance work?

All you have to do to insure your shipment is to opt for it in the ‘Protect Your Shipment’ box and indicate the value to be covered – this should be the same as the value of the shipment, which should be reflected on your invoice as well.

The price of insuring your shipment is JPY 2,500 or 1.20% of the insured value if higher. The insurance covers the actual value of your shipment in the unlikely event that it gets damaged or lost in our care.

Extended liability for documents

At DHL we take great care of all shipments, be it parcel or document. Unfortunately, accidents or unforeseen circumstances still occur. At a flat rate of JPY 800, you can insure your documents and ship them with certainty. For Extended Liability, no declared or insured value is necessary.
